Opportunities in Our Group

Prospective Ph.D. Students

We welcome Ph.D. students who are interested in child-computer interaction (e.g., child-centered AI design, children’s learning experiences and technologies, and family joint media engagement), Computer Science education for children (e.g., AI and broader computational literacy), or design research (e.g., design methodologies and research through design in HCI) to join us in the School of Design (Ph.D. in Design) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Opportunities are available through the university’s fellowship schemes, including the RGC Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) and PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme (PPPFS). Note that these two fellowships are highly competitive and generally demand that applicants possess a high GPA from their undergraduate studies, as well as a strong ranking for their undergraduate institution or field of study. Should you wish to apply for these fellowship programs, please contact Prof. Junnan Yu to discuss the possibility of working together.

Postdocs

We welcome postdocs to join our team via the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme, which offers a generous annual stipend of HK$420,090 and a research-related travel allowance of HK$13,350 per year. The application deadline usually falls in October each year. If you are interested, please contact Prof. Junnan Yu to discuss potential proposal topics.

Master and Undergraduate Students @PolyU and Other Institutions

We invite self-driven and passionate master and undergraduate students from PolyU and other Hong Kong institutions, who have an interest in our research areas and are seeking research experience, to reach out and join our team. You will primarily contribute to existing projects by assisting with tasks such as data collection and prototype creation. Additionally, you are encouraged to initiate and lead your own research endeavors. Please note that while we aim to offer hourly compensation to master and undergraduate research assistants, this is subject to the availability of research funds and may not always be possible. Regardless of compensation, we expect a serious and sustained commitment from all participants. Lastly, we generally do not accommodate requests for remote participation.

Visiting Ph.D. Students

If you are currently enrolled as a Ph.D. student at another institution and are interested in spending some research time (for example, 4-6 months) in Hong Kong with our group, you may apply for the PolyU Research Student Attachment Program. This program provides a monthly sponsorship of HK$12,000 for a maximum of six months. Please note that our group is unable to offer additional financial support. As for accommodation, you have the choice to arrange your own housing or to apply for a place in PolyU’s Student Halls.
